An unusually large and impressive “Celestial Sphere” vase, 85cm x 56cm (33.5 x 22 inches). Circa Mid 20th Century

The rich cherry red glaze starts at the base in steep, dark, flame shaped striations which dissipate upwards to form a finely mottled overall finish. This has then been skilfully blended out to reveal the snow white paste of the ceramic in a superb ombre effect at the top of the neck. It is wonderfully crackle glazed all over and dotted with tiny air bubbles, giving the impression you are viewing the colour through a layer of clear glass.

Condition is overall superb. There are a couple of very small scratches to the glaze, where the white paste can be seen coming through. None more than a mm high and a couple of mm across. The unglazed foot rim is chipped in places. In one place, this has impacted on the glaze above the foot rim, where an area around 6mm square has been crushed and a tiny amount of glaze has been lost. This is not visible unless turning the vase on it’s side to inspect. Please see images.
