A wonderful original vintage French circus poster, Pinder O.R.T.F. - La Piste aux Etoiles '"65" de Gilles Margaritis. Featuring the legendary Gilbert Houcke and his Royal Tigers! 49cm x 59cm.(19.2 x 23.2 inches).
An attractive, graphic, colourful and well drawn poster. Ten beautifully executed tigers and their trainer against a solid turquoise ground.

The poster presents very well, with minor condition issues. A small loss and tear at bottom left. Usual crease marks along fold lines, not very heavy. A small hole at the top of the T on ORTF where the fold line lies. The top edge not as crisp as the sides, with some creasing. More images on the Google Drive link here
Gilbert Houcke made his first engagement at the Cirque d'Hiver-Bouglione where he appeared as "Tarzan" in front of a group of six beasts. He portrayed this character in the film The Tiger of Colombo, which earned him the nickname “French Tarzan”. In France, the press described his approach as "benevolent". In a context where animal abuse was the norm in post-war circus arts, declaring: "Gilbert Houcke was a pioneer; he did not tame, he tamed. He loved his tigers and his tigers loved him. He was famous for the dance of the standing tiger which features on this poster.
La Piste aux étoiles (The Trail to the Stars) was a French television program by Gilles Margaritis, presenting a circus show, recorded mainly at the Cirque d'Hiver in Paris or the Pinder circus.
